Walking a mile might not seem like a big deal to most people, but for those with special needs or disabilities, it can be the challenge of a lifetime. The PUSH-WALK-RIDE, sponsored by Mercy Health System, is an event where the clients of the organizations the GNF supports, reach out to individuals in the community to sponsor them to push, walk themselves, or ride in a wheelchair, along a 1 mile course at Geneva National Golf Club. Each organization keeps 100% of the money it raises.
This year's event was on Sunday, June 26 and featured a Health Fair sponsored by Mercy Health System, keynote speaker Butch Lumpkin, the PUSH-WALK-RIDE, and an Ice Cream Social sponsored by Culver's. Between the four organizations that participated, clients, friends and family raised more than $33,200 - up 45% over 2010.
More than 400 individuals participated in this year's PUSH-WALK-RIDE, 95 of which were individuals with disabilities. For many of them it is the first time they have ever received a medal for completing something and was the highlight of their year.
As always, the event is FREE and open to anyone who would like to attend. For more information or to volunteer to help with this event, please call the GNF office at 262-245-7310.
